A fascination with colour and light characterise John Strevens’s watercolours and sketches from church interiors around Essex painted when on leave from Light Rescue duties in London during Second World War to pictures of the Alhambra and flower pieces. Here are just a few of his pencil sketchbooks which survive from studies of flowers to to travel sketches and the occasional compositional study in oil for a larger painting.
